new to the 3DS…

So I caved in and bought myself a 3DS (along with soulsilver!!!) I remember it being so fun as a kid so why not but its been a long time and i didnt even know the eshop closed lol… im just wondering will street pass and such work since it got closed? And are you able to download ANYTHING anymore or is it only physical games from now on?
