Struggling trying to choose between Light Domain Cleric and Divine Soul Sorcerer for upcoming campaign
I think I may have finally narrowed it down to those to choices for a campaign that's looking to start next month. It will be the first one using the 2024 rules and the rest of the party is a Moon Druid, Echo Knight Fighter, Swashbuckler Rogue (who wants to handle "face" duties), a Barbarian of some sort and a Warlock of some sort.
We're playing 2024 rules and probably going from level 1 to around level 12. So no 1 level cleric dips etc with the new rules. There's some holes providing some healing and buffs with this party and also not much "control". I am kind of worried about big aoe spells with so many melee but maybe taking careful spell as a sorcerer might help with that, but that's an investment with limited meta magics.
Both classes feel like they'd play similar, there's a few differences. The cleric is a little less squishy, has turn undead, strong aoe and provides the buffs we're missing. The DSS would let me get access to better control spells, still get buffs and still pick some good damage, and the Sorcerer class itself got some nice buffs in the 2024 rules.
Anyone have any opinions or experience with those classes (especially with the 2024 rules) that might help me make a decision?
