What people don’t understand: certain clubs pay overs for what they need.
Some teams need to pay players overs to get them to their clubs for certain reasons. Some teams need to give up high draft picks to get certain players.
Collingwood paying Perryman ‘overs’ is due to the fact we had hardly any picks, no trade capital and if we didn’t get a free agent we would have struggled to make many off season changes. We need younger players also due to ageing players retiring end of next season. If it means paying a little bit more rather than doing nothing then this is what happens.
Suns might have to give up pick 6 for Rioli, they need his type of player, experience wise and position wise. They got 4 very high draft picks last season and another academy player in Lombard coming in.
Same at north Melbourne, they have an incredible amount of young talent so what they need is older guys around the club.
Some clubs pay for what they need, not just the best available player they can get. They look at what their team is lacking and go for it, even if you have to pay this player more than what they would get somewhere else. The value of these players is different in each team. Otherwise only key position players and gun midfielders would get paid a lot.
Kane Cornes is terrible for this but also see many people on here not understanding why certain players are attracting high salaries and draft picks for a trade.
