AITA for making my best friend’s fiancée uncomfortable at his birthday party

So I (31F) have been best friends with Fadi (32M) forever. We’ve been through everything together, we’re super close. He’s engaged to Joanna (32F) and they just had a baby. So when his birthday came up, of course, I was invited and went.

Now, I got Fadi this perfect leather jacket. It’s something he’s been talking about forever, so I knew he’d love it. I wasn’t thinking about anything else, just that I nailed the gift. He was so excited when I gave it to him, like “Wow, you really know me!” and we shared a hug. But then I noticed Joanna standing there, not smiling, looking kind of off. It was like, she wasn’t angry, but she definitely wasn’t happy either.

I didn’t think much of it at first but then it just started bugging me. I’ve been in Fadi’s life forever—why was she acting like I shouldn’t be giving him a gift or being close to him? So, I started making these comments like “Wow, guess I’m just really good at picking gifts for Fadi, huh?” and “I really know him better than anyone, don’t I?” I wasn’t trying to be rude—I just thought she was being dramatic.

But the more I watched her, the more I could tell it was bothering her, and honestly, I got annoyed. Why should it bother her? I mean, I’ve been in Fadi’s life way longer than she has. I’m not trying to take his attention away from her, but I felt like she was acting like I didn’t belong there or something.

So I kept going. I made another comment about how hard it must be to find a gift when you’ve got a baby to take care of. At that point, she snapped. She said something like “You seriously don’t get it, do you?” and finally I understood she wasn’t just uncomfortable—she was actually mad. But at that point, I just got even more frustrated.

I said something back like “I’m just trying to be friendly but okay, sorry for making you feel so uncomfortable,” and honestly, I didn’t even care. I was just speaking my mind. I’m Fadi’s best friend, I’ve been there for him for years and I don’t get why she’s making a big deal out of nothing.

At that point, Fadi was still clueless, going on about how much he loved the jacket, but Joanna just kept getting more upset. It was honestly like she didn’t want me there, and I wasn’t going to just sit quietly.

So now, I’m sitting here wondering, did I do something wrong? AITA for making her uncomfortable at Fadi’s birthday? I didn’t mean to hurt her, I just don’t understand why she’s acting like this. It wasn’t like I was doing anything bad, I was just being myself.
