AITA for refusing to call my uncle?

My father’s parents died when he was young. He and his brother have had a tumultuous relationship throughout their adulthood but seem relatively fine now. I have never been close to my uncle but recently I’ve found out that he is upset with me. My father asked me to call my uncle recently and I said no because I have no desire to have a relationship with him. AITA?

Backstory: my husband and I are expecting. Apparently when we started telling family members that we’re close to, someone let the news slip and told my dad’s brother before I could send out the announcements. He’s been upset ever since and has told every family member who will listen that he’s upset with me (I know because several of them have told me). He refused to come to our baby shower but has yet to call me directly and express his feelings.

Now again, we are not close. I could generally care less. I haven’t heard from him on birthdays or holidays in years. I have messaged him on his birthday and received no response on multiple occasions so I stopped reaching out. I see him at large family gatherings and that’s about it.

To make matters worse, I even found out he spent a two hour drive to my wedding several years ago screaming at my dad about his life choices which left my dad sad and withdrawn on my wedding day (this was info I found out much later). Several other things have also occurred that left a bad taste in my mouth (him only ever having negative things to say about my very loving husband, him trying to guilt me and my sister to move home to live with our dad even though we both have homes and careers in different cities, him being mean to my favorite cousin/his son because my cousins’s baby daughter didn’t want my uncle to hold her, etc.).

My father has said he supports my decision but I know this is probably putting him in a difficult spot. AITA? Should I just call my uncle? Or is continuing to choose peace over his middle school drama and negative energy completely valid?
