how to make a trap in ASA?

i tried to make the old fashioned trap where you put gates in front of each other but no matter what i do, it always wants to connect to the side of the other gate and it keeps snapping on. is there a button or setting to be able to free place (on ps5)? its way less of a pain to build than having to make pillars and ceilings also so the flyers cant get out
