What mood and cognitive changes do you experience during an adrenal crisis?
Tldr- I remember reading that 2 symptoms someone might experience in adrenal crisis are: loss of resilience, and impending doom. I'm very resilient normally, but one of my first symptoms of adrenal crisis is my loss of resilience and mood instability. I don't see much on Google in regards to those symptoms. What mood and cognitive changes do you all notice in adrenal crisis (if any)?
Details of my adrenal crisis episode - I got in a pretty bad argument with a loved one and I was running low on my hydrocortisone. I had enough till my prescription refill, but with the extra stress I simply didn't have enough to take an extra pill. Emotional stress has never caused an AC for me so I thought I'd be okay. I was crying more and more and getting angrier and angrier even long after the argument. It wasn't like me so I noticed it must be my cortisol deficiency. Hours later I had full blown symptoms (nausea, pain, hypotension, dizzy, diarrhea, super super tired, weak, shaking, sweating, etc.). I noticed a few symptoms in the argument. I got meds as soon as I could. I guess it feels like if I get upset and I don't immediately take some extra hydro my AI makes me more upset and then it's a spiral downwards. I have the absolute worst control over my emotions and cognition during AC. The more the argument escalated because I was getting emotionally reactive (sad and angry outbursts), the more I got stressed, the worse the AC became, till my cognition was significantly impaired, and that only escalated the argument more. Anyone with AI have an experience similar to this? How do you know when the emotional stress is enough that you need extra meds?
I'll be talking to my endocrinologist about prescribing more so I don't ever run out again. And I obviously need to discuss with my loved ones a plan for when we have a disagreement so that it doesn't escalate like that.
