Neighbor Hit my Parked Car

A few nights ago my car was hit while parked on the street in front of my house. The collision broke my left brake light and left scratches on the back of my car. The person left no information, but they did leave their side mirror and a piece off of their passenger door at the scene.

Later the same day, I saw the car at a house a few houses down from my own. The next day, I filed a police report . The officer asked if I wanted to press charges and said not at this time. They took my information and the pictures of the scene I had. The officer said they'd attempt to contact them and get their insurance information once they've located the person.

The next day, I wrote up a short note addressed to the owner of the car that hit me. I mentioned that we could go through insurance if they'd like or leave insurance out of it. I added a quote from a mechanic on the damaged light and a few ways they could pay me (Zelle, venmo, cashapp) along with my number to text me their information.

If they don't respond in a couple days I'm not sure what I should do. I'm really nervous about my rates going up over this and i likely won't get any money back. This really sucks and I don't want to just eat the cost of repairs for the damages that weren't my fault.

Any advice is more than welcome.
