Horizon Air Experience

We had a pretty rough experience on a SFO —> SEA flight yesterday and it curious to see if 1) anyone else has had an experience like this and 2) you have suggestions for next steps.

This was a Horizon Air flight. I’ve never had issues with them, ever. We were booked in first class. Once we were in the air, a flight attendant began walking through the FC cabin, announcing that the flight had “been miscatered” and that “like only four sandwiches” had been provided. She stated that she made the decision to cancel in-flight meal service in the interest of fairness to those wouldn’t have received food. I get it, this was fair. She then said that she would be passing the snack basket so that we would have something to eat. She also stated that she had the authority to compensate us with either a $75 credit or miles. Again, fair. I’m not upset by this.

She passed the snack basket around a total of two times. Salty, greasy snacks - no napkins were passed out. When she took drink orders, I requested water. She did not offer ice, but rather served me a box of tepid water. Again, no napkins were distributed. I could see that others in FC were given glasses with ice for their water. I was dumbfounded.

She returned to ask which method of compensation we wanted, and at that time I asked for napkins and a glass of ice. She understood the request and went to the row behind us to discuss their compensation preference. About five minutes later, she returned with a napkin and a glass of room temperature water. I told her that I’d like a glass of ice; she left and returned with a glass of ice water. At no point did she apologize for not providing napkins or ice the first time. She failed to return until the very end of the flight.

Throughout the flight, I observed that she was not only considerably more courteous with other passengers, but that she seemed to be power tripping. Everything was her decision to make and she [had] the authority to do this and that.

Not that it matters, but this was a birthday trip for me. I disembarked from the flight with a migraine. I’m a seasoned traveler and I always treat flight attendants with respect and courtesy. I left the flight feeling like it was the worst service I’d ever received.

What would you do? Have you had a similar experience?
