I absolutely love alice in borderland, it’s one of my favourite series (most of my volumes and aib stuff is displayed on shelves above my bed) but battle royale will always honestly come first in my heart. It’s literally my biggest hyperfixation to point i have a whole corner of my room dedicated to the series lol.
battle royale takes place in a completely fascist japan (greater republic of east asia), it’s an extremely tragic story where even at end of the novel the main characters aren’t free, being viewed as criminals for surviving a program that exists to cause needless suffering to innocent people, there’s literally no reward for getting out alive other than your life, which would fall apart anyways because the people you care about could be killed while you’re in the program.
It’s an awesome read and I’ll always recommend it to anyone who loves death game media because the novel itself created its own genre and inspired so many amazing works.
