How would you have handled?

Was delivering down a residential street, it was closed to be resurfaced.

While carrying 6 odd shaped packages walking down the street to deliver, one of the construction workers says, "I wish my driver was like you!"

I'm a 47yr old Male, I didn't know if I was supposed to respond, or how to respond to that, so I kept delivering and he said it again, I kind of nodded and grunted, and kept going but it was like he was expecting me to thank him?

Just weird to me
