Barold.. Why is he so adamant on staying

I tend to like most villagers, however I hate this freak. How do I get rid of him? I’ve had him for years, I avoid interacting with him and the very few times I do he always says weird crap like this (old pic). I tried making him upset by pushing him into pitfall seeds, but I read later on in some random forum that it counts as interacting, and in doing that I’m making him more likely to stay. I’ve read up on different tips and tricks, but a lot are contradicting, so I’m asking here.

How do I get rid of him? I’m at my limit!!
