What i think has gone wrong at Arsenal
For me, Arsenal have, for the past 2-3 seasons, been extremely consistent.
The only problem is that there are no real moments of brilliance.
Chelsea weren't even top ten in the league for around half the season, but finished top six because of that amazing last few games. Liverpool absolutely stunk it up at the end of the season. But because of the December-March phase where they were winning games consistently, they still finished third.
Havertz as a main striker is... iffy. He's good, but there's really no backup for him. Gyokeres is almost out of the question now, so many clubs linked to him. Isak is injury prone, exactly what Arsenal don't need.
Other top teams, like Manchester City or Liverpool at their best, have those individual moments of magic or phases where they elevate the game in a way that transforms the season. Look at City in their treble-winning season - the late parts of the season, they switched on.
In the 2018/19 season, Liverpool showcased incredible consistency, mirroring what Arsenal’s been doing. They went on that stunning run, losing just one game all season, but Manchester City edged them out by a single point. That Liverpool squad balanced a solid, relentless performance with some clutch moments - especially during high-stakes matches.
Klopp's approach in the 2019/20 season was a perfect evolution of their game. They didn’t just rely on consistency; they went into overdrive, blending their reliable performance with a ruthless intensity that left opponents with little chance. By Feb, they had effectively sealed the title. That's what I though Arteta would have done, or at least soemthing similar.
Arsenal, consistently, have been good. But to win titles, they have to be great and they have the potential to be. Saka is amazing, so is the midfield, the defence is looking great, and Raya is much better than I personally expected. But if the team can't capitalise on the one time City is playing badly, then you have to consider if they really are an amazing club.
Arteta can do it, I know he can, and I know he needs time , but he doesn't have that time. Players don't want to stay at the club forever, and the squad isn't getting any better unless the transfer window is really good.
TLDR: Arsenal is consistently good, but they have to be great. Let's see what happens against Chelsea.
