Dissonance: Germans' love for punctuality vs. DB's whimsical schedules.

I recently moved to Germany and have been trying to learn the culture and nuances of Germans. Germans are of course known for their punctuality. However, I have also noticed Germans showing a sense of acceptance whenever trains or buses are delayed or worse, cancelled.

In the last two days, I had to travel to another German city, which required me to take at least 2 ICEs + 2 regional trains. All of which had delays of up to 30mins, which means I (and many passengers of similar route) had to miss our connections. While I was visibly frustrated, the Germans remained stoic, and some even laughed about it: "DB ist DB. Egal".

How do I reconcile the fact that Germans place great importance on being punctual for appointments, yet they are resigned to DB's whimsical schedule that I am sure will cause them to be unpunctual for their appointments?

Thanks for your enlightenment.

*EDIT: Thank you for your response and for sharing your perspective with me. It helps. I now just need to accept (or resign) that DB will always be DB, and find a resolution around it if I want to be punctual for my appointments: like getting a car or even travelling a day earlier as a buffer time. It's interesting to learn about the history of DB privatisation too. I'll look more into that.
