Should I leave my PhD after 3 months?

I started a PhD in physical chemistry around 3 months ago but am already considering leaving. I do not have any problems with the work and think I am quite a capable student in comparison to others within the division. I also have a good relationship with my supervisor and would feel extremely bad about leaving so soon and wasting funding.

I do not want to pursue a career in academia due to the poor pay, job security and essentially being forced to live in places you may not want to. I am also living in a foreign country away from family, friends and my partner. I already have an offer on a graduate scheme in engineering and am through to final stage interviews in other jobs that sound interesting and would allow me to live closer to home. I could probably find a decent job in industry after my PhD, but the specialised nature worries me as I may not be able to live where I would like to.

I’d like to hear what advice anyone has to offer, particularly if there is anyone who had doubts about their PhD and working in academia, but have completed and are now happily working within industry.
