How do americans feel about other countries/their own nature?

I always hear and see Americans talk about the countrysides in the British isles (im from the UK) and talk about it like its such an amazing thing and I guess it sort of is but to me its quite normal. And then I also see Americans start going on about how boring their state is and then they go on to mention its Colorado or Utah. I dont understand, I see americans in awe of rolling hills yet the average US suburbs is surrounded by mountains as tall as the alps.
