Wrong Breaker?
Our furnace Motor went out. The furnace is 9 years old, we've owned the house for 7 years. We've had a several people out to look at repair/replace options. The last person who was out said it is obvious the furnace burned out because someone changed the breaker from a 15 to a 20, and I needed to get that fixed right away. (No one else even mentioned this.)
The inside of the furnace said 8.8, and the tech did some math to prove his calculations were correct, but I didn't quite catch the meaning. He said someone replaced the original with something from the hardware store.
Here are my questions, first, is this actually the wrong Breaker? Second, Could it have actually caused the motor to go out? And finally, should this influence my decision to repair (~$1,400) or replace (~$6,500)?
