Passive ESD dissipation for computer lab
TLDR: we get shocked touching everything, would like a non strap or mat solution like air ionizers or something passive. Thank you for your time
At my work, we have a carpeted lab full of servers, switches, and other random equipment, but right now, we’re having issues where everything conductive you touch will shock you even if you touched 5 things in a row; each will give you a zap. They’re all plugged into the same surge protector, which is plugged into a standard 3-prong American outlet, so in theory, if you lose your potential on one item, the next shouldn’t get you right?
We have 2 humidifiers and one is directly infront of the lab we suffer in, we can’t use the ESD straps because you shouldn’t be the best ground while working on possibly faulty equipment, and that’s basically what our lab is for testing is for.
We’re looking for a passive dissipation of ESD without cranking the humidity to the max and causing a different type of damage.
