Armed “textbook self defense” incident

A year ago in the middle of the night some gunmen tried to kill me when they realized I caught them in the burglary. 2 shooters started shooting at me into my home. I was armed and I returned fire AFTER they shot at me into my home. They fled. No one was hit. Everything was recorded via home surveillance. Responding officers recovered the shooters spent shells, bullet fragments in the walls of my home, took some statements, took a copy of the video (and watched on the spot). The video recorded the entire thing from start to finish and got their truck and them on camera and also their voices. Castle doctrine state. Officers told me that this was textbook self defense and that Castle doctrine protected me and basically that I did a good job. They said because me my wife and kid were in the house it would be 3 Separate charges of aggravated or felony assault if they caught the people. They left and it’s been an entire year and I never heard from anyone ever again about it. No police ever came back by, no detectives ever called me, no attorneys sent me letters. No one told me if they ever caught the bad guys. I called about 6 months and talked to records and they said the case was closed pending further leads. Nothing.

  1. How long until I can openly talk about this with friends and family? Surely if something was wrong and I was in some sort of trouble I would have known by now?

  2. Assume that they will never be caught and the case will never be solved? Is this the correct assumption.

  3. Are there any support groups for this type of thing?

  4. If I ever get stopped in the future for a traffic stop or something is this going to show up when my planes get ran?

Thanks all
