How do i become a mechanic?

This may be a bit of a different post from the rest but i figured this is a good place to ask it. How do i (19M) start my career as a mechanic? I have a couple years of unofficial experience and i think im ready for the automotive industry, but i dont have an ASE certification and none of my previous jobs are related experience wise.

Any advice helps, but i dont want to go to school so im thinking ill have to work my way up by starting at a lube shop or potentially an apprentice if im lucky.
