Why do a lot of men find ribbing(teasing) each other fun or enjoyable?

As a young man, and to this day, i never got the "bros insult each other to show bonding." "If i'm ribbing you it's because i like you." It always felt awkward. I don't like calling people fat, dumb, or any other thing they might be insecure about. It literally makes me cringe. I've resorted to as an adult just flat out telling people i don't appreciate it. It's lead to some awkward interactions. I feel like i'm on the specturm regarding this and that i can't hang with some of the other guys.

Is this something i should change about myself? I feel it might be too late for me....
