Cops covering peep hole

Title: I had many cops at my neighbors door last night. Someone was in her apartment that she had a restraining order against. Eventually a swat team came to pry open her door and for some reason they covered my peep hole. Has anyone experienced something like this? I get why they might do it, but can they legally do that?
