Au pair using LOTS of toilet paper
I feel bad/petty even posting this, but our au pair, who just moved in, is using a huge amount of toilet paper. Literally, half a large roll in a day. I explained that we flush it and don’t put it in the garbage, she said she understood how toilets work here. But is it common to use this much toilet paper in other countries? She is from Brazil. I can’t imagine ever saying anything to her, unless someone has advice on how to broach it kindly? I’d hate to embarrass her on a sensitive subject. If anything, I think I’ll just buy cheaper TP in bulk… but am wondering if anyone has run into this or noticed the same!
UPDATE: To those who have come to share their insights on Brazilian culture, and helped me recognize things I may have been overlooking - like making sure she has access to medicine if it’s a stomach issues, makeup wipes, considering a bidet, etc. - I really appreciate it. Honestly made this post on a whim when something stood out to me as a little odd / different from what I was used to. While the added cost was a minor concern - we are not rich but knew an au pair would be expensive, and are trying to be mindful of costs and budget what we can - ultimately I was also trying to understand if she was used to a different bathroom set-up at home. I appreciate those who read my post and understood my intentions rather than jumping to conclusions with rude and judgmental comments. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised - this is the Internet, after all - so to those who have chimed in with genuine and well-meaning advice, thank you 🙏
