Sewing your own clothes
I have quite an expensive shopping habit and love high(er)-end Australian designer (Lee Mathews, Bassike etc), and what might be considered high-end 'indie' brands overseas (Studio Nicholson, Lemaire, Dries).
This year coming I've decided to attempt to combat my spending in this area and learn to sew, specifically shirts, suit pants, and light jackets using high quality fabrics from here and overseas.
I'm wondering if anyone else has been on this journey, and successfully made a few staples for their wardrobe, or, been through the whole cycle and given up! As someone whose coming in fresh I'd like to put the feelers out to see if I'm wasting my time. Or, if this is genuinely a good idea before forking out for private sewing lessons etc.
Update: Thanks all for your responses, I guess I should have been clear that I’m currently forking out a fair whack for good quality clothes, so I’m wanting to save some coin where I can and achieve a similar level of quality to what I’m used to - not to sound like a snob, but well made and natural fabrics (euro background) have been ingrained in me as an important investments.
I’ve booked myself in to some private seeing lessons at a facility that allows you to rent their room on an ongoing basis, I’ll be posting again with an update of my first finished pieces with a price breakdown ;).
