Are Apartments better than renting ?

Hi All

Wanting to know if it would be better to buy an apartment as a way of preserving cash in equity rather than paying monthly rent (and eroding my existing cash) ?

I do have enough for a 1-bedroom apartment but not enough to get into property as yet
