Magnesite in apartment concrete slab
Hi all, I recently purchased an apartment and need to replace the carpet. Ideally, I would want to remove the carpet and install floating floorboards. I’ve contacted the strata and they told me there is magnesite in the concrete slab and that they strongly recommend it to be removed prior to installing floating floor boards. From my research it seems like the issue with magnesite is that if it gets in contact with water it can lead to concrete cancer and that while it is present the floor may not be level?
My question is if the magnesite is damaged, has anyone been through the process of having this removed? And would it then be easy to install floating floorboards on top?
However if the magnesite is intact am I safe to re-carpet over it? What happens if I spill water on the carpet? Would this eventually damage the magnesite?
Any advice or experience appreciated
