Should I bother trying to get diagnosed?
Hello, so I am a 24yo female and over the past 2-3 years with support from my husband and his family have come to the realization that I am definitely in the neurodivergent group. I’ve done a lot of research and took the raads test online along with a couple other ones that were recommended. According to these I fall into the range of “most likely autistic and should see a professional”. But I’ve seen a lot of people say that the wait to get seen for this and diagnosed is like 3-4 years in the US where I live, and other people saying once your an adult it’s basically just a combination of diagnosis like sensory processing disorder and anxiety etc.
so I guess I’m just wanting to know from late diagnosed people who are or were struggling with life does it make a difference? Is there even a point in waiting or should I just pursue the diagnosis for the specific things that are impacting my life and forget about an autism diagnosis?
Also if anyone has any tips on how to handle working with sensory issues and overcome the dread I get when trying to get a new job because of how I’ve been treated (largely due to a chronic medical condition but also the constant sensory overwhelm) it would be much appreciated, working and starting a new job is the aspect I’m struggling the most with. Thank you in advance!
