OD BOLC w/EOD pre-select

I'm PCSing over there with a report date of 23 Jan. I've hit up housing over there but there's a wait list with 2 people ahead of me. I've been looking at off base housing as well. Petersburg itself is pretty sketch so any recommendations of a place to stay? Don't really want to do an apartment but will do that if need be. Also, any insight on how OD BOLC/ phase 1 is like?
