Why does the Powell have such long sleeves?

I'm deciding between the Shoveler, Powell, and Chelsea Sportsquilt jackets.

I really like the leather piping on the Powell, but I tried it on and the arms came down to the middle of my palms (the Chelsea and my waxed Barbours fit normally).

Is there a reason for this detail—maybe warmth? Am I expected to find a tailor to shorten them? The Bedale, Beaufort, and Border are chock full of equestrian, shooting, and walking details respectively, so I can't help but wonder if they're intentional.

(And if anyone knows—is the Chelsea Sportsquilt the same pattern as the Flyweight? Nordstrom only had the latter for me to try on.)
