Since a lot of questions keep repeating themselves, I will try to compile them all here.

Q1. Is Dani Olmo a free agent?

He has a clause in his contract that allows him to be a free agent if he isn't registered on time. He has yet to trigger this clause.

Q2. What's next for Dani Olmo?

He has three options:

  • Leave as a free agent: Barca will need to pay him the entirety of his contract to Dani (approx. 60 mil) and RB Leipzig (approx. 50 mil) up until 2030.
  • Go on loan: If Dani chooses to stay with Barca for the next 6 months and reregister in the summer of 2025, he can be sent on loan for this duration. Recent posts and updates from his agent (even though his agent was in Manchester on "vacation" sometime back) indicate he wants to stay in Barca, so this is the most likely outcome if he does not get registered.
  • Do nothing: If he does not want to go on a loan or leave the club, then he can just be a chill guy for 6 months. However, that is highly unlikely.

Q3. What's next for Pau Victor?

As he does not seem to have a similar clause as Dani for the leaving the club as a free agent, he will most likely be sent on loan in the winter market.

Q4. Can Dani Olmo and Pau Victor be still registered?

According to the hard deadline and the La Liga statement released last night: NO. Long answer: MAYBE YES.

The main reason why the VIP Box sale was not accepted by La Liga was because out of the 2 payments by the associated companies, Barca provided proof of payment for only one of them. So, the money was not enough to register them (La Liga required Barca to generate 60 mil funds to register them). Possible way forward for Barca includes:

  • Challenging this requirement for proof, as all other documents were provided (No information yet if this is being pursued by the club)
  • Challenging existing rules like "A player can be registered only once for a club in a single season" (IMO, this will not be accepted by La Liga and will be challenged by other clubs.)
  • Use personal guarantees to register them. This was supposed to be the last option if everything fails, but for some reason the board decided not to go for it, even though they have used this option in previous seasons to register players like Kounde. It could be that the board simply don't have the required funds. But it could also mean that not everyone in the board is on board with Laporta.
  • If any other options are being pursued by the club, I don't have any information regarding that. But something is happening for sure behind the scenes.

Q5. Is there an extension of three days?

Extremely conflicting reports are coming regarding this. As of now, the only official communication we have regarding this is Barca's statement, where they clarified that no moratorium has been requested by the club, nor granted by the league. But that was before the official statement by La Liga. As of now, we do not know.

P.S.: The date of 2nd January in the official statement of La Liga refers to when the transfer window starts in La Liga (yes, unlike the Premiere League, Ligue 1, etc., it does not start on 1st January in La Liga). It is unclear whether it means that we still have 1st January to register Olmo (the official deadline was 31st December, idk why not 1st January)

Q6. Can Dani Olmo and Pau Victor play in the Spanish cups and UCL?

NO. For playing in the UCL, a player must be registered in the domestic league. And registration of the Spanish cups like Copa Del Rey, are handled by RFEF. Yesterday Barca had applied for their registration licenses for the cups, but RFEF declined it, saying that they cannot approve such registrations without La Liga's approval.

Q7. Are we back to 1:1?

Once the 2nd payment gets completed: YES. This VIP Box sale will plug the 60mil hole created by Barca Studios' missed payment, and we will be back to 1:1. This has been confirmed by La Liga themselves.

Final note:

Most of the sources and reports are extremely speculative and unreliable. So, everything must be taken with a grain of salt until we receive official communications from La Liga and the club.
