If losing weight post surgery still requires using traditional methods, what difference did the surgery make for you?
I'm genuinely asking as someone with a BMI of 50 considering surgery.
I asked about weight loss medications but my GP said I'd be better off with a surgical option.
I struggle with compulsive, emotional and boredom eating. My fear is that I couldn't reduce my intake even after surgery. If I could reduce it after, why not use some serious self control (that I lack) and reduce it now?
If you have the same poor eating patterns that I do, did the surgery change those impulses?
I'm also at a weight where self-care is becoming difficult and the more I move the more I'm falling over and just injuring myself in general. This makes it hard to exercise to help lose weight and is crushing my self esteem.
Did you have mobility issues and general weakness? Did losing weight through diet restriction enable you to exercise again, or did your movement issues remain the same?
I don't want to spend a fortune on surgery if it won't help me. Please let me know if you can relate at all.
Edit: I really appreciate all of your responses so far, they're very helpful for outlining the difference it makes and I will go over them a few times until I make a decision (and possibly even after).
