LA Native using BART for the first time
I went up to the Bay Area last weekend, and I used BART as my primary method of transportation. It made really good impression, and as someone who lives in LA and uses Metro every now and then, I'm very envious of BART.
What I loved about BART:
Speed -BART's operating speeds are higher than most US metro systems. Speed wise, BART is often competitive with driving, especially during rush hours, which is only true for a small handful of trips on LA Metro.
Complete Grade Separation -Having a fully grade separated system is such a valuable blessing. Please cherish and appreciate that lol Not having to wait at traffic lights or slow down at grade crossings really makes the system more efficient across the board.
Trains -The trains are colossal. Theyre also very modern and spacious. Up to 10 units long is so cool to me. The sound of the propulsion system also sounds very similar to the Breda A650, which I love. (I'm a train geek)
Coverage -It covers great distances, reaching far out into almost every major area of the Bay. It felt like there was nowhere I couldn't reach.
What I didn't like:
Price -BART is significantly more expensive than LA Metro. A one-way trip on Metro Rail costs less than 2$, and you can get an unlimited day pass. I spent about 100 dollars to use BART for the weekend. But then again, it is a higher grade of transit.
Headways -The headways weren't great at times, but hey, everything cant be perfect, and Rome wasn't built in a day. Overall, the headways were solid.
