Rangefinder gadget in homepage “Soldier” tab

Does anyone know what the rangefinder in the “light gadget” of the soldier page is?

I remember the “bino soflam” was with the squad leader and I think only difference was it didn’t give off glint, but I have never seen the rangefinder gadget or maybe I had missed it when the squad leader role was implemented.
