Beardie Behavior Question: Staring then Running to Cage.

My beardie, Hayes, is acting a little strange and I'd like any advice you have!

I opened his cage to let him run around like I normally do, then he runs right up to me, stares at me for a good 5 minutes, then sprints back to his cage and gets inside. And then it repeats. I figured he might've been hungry so I gave him some roaches, but he keeps repeating his behavior from earlier. This is the first time he's ever run up to me, so I assume he's starting to trust me more, but him running back and forth from his cage baffles me.
