psa new year new fare evasion rules + cops hiding in the stairwells
for anyone who didn't realize (sorry if this is a dupe) but they've updated fare evasion rules for 2025: https://new.mta.info/agency/transit-adjudication-bureau
also re: the following description of hiding + ticketing, i'm sure they've been doing this for a while, but i figured an update that they are still doing it in jan 2025 might be helpful so here goes:
they're also doing more hiding + ticketing, as seen at some of the bed stuy A stops - cops will hide in the stairwell near the railing so you can't see them, and whenever they hear the emergency exit door open, theyll poke their heads up to see if anyone looks like they came in without paying.
granted they can't SEE the emergency exit door bc of how they're positioned in the stairwell to stay hidden from riders, but being positioned at the stairs means they'll catch most people on the way down to the platform, and even at stations like Utica that have stairs + the ramps, i saw them scurry up the stairs and then hurry down the ramp to call out to some guy they suspected of fare evading.
soooo be on the lookout for that, i imagine they'll be stopping more people these days since they can't tell if you evaded or not, they're just listening for the door
