Where did all the energy vampires go? Whatcom County council meeting was pretty boring.
AI voice lady flew in and……made what seemed like highly reasonable observations that some community health funding allocated too much to covid19 response which is no longer a large community impact and not enough to fentanyl response. Sounds good to me, more money for opioid addiction response. The only weird thing she said is that she attends local government meetings in multiple counties, just stop it lady, that’s excessive.
Tree man said that epiphytes are dope. Epiphytes are lichen, moss and algae. In the canopy of an old growth forest tens of thousands of gallons of water is held per acre, or something like that. Basically, a bunch of 50 year old trees in a thin forest is a “working forest” and is kind of a fake forest and burns easily, whereas an old growth forest is straight fire, like on fire with life and wetness, because in the northwest a wet forest is a healthy forest, and that means old growth. When we cleared out the cedar trees in the lowlands of Whatcom county we altered the microclimate by also clearing out the low-land atmospheric moisture content, so by protecting old growth and allowing more forests to become old growth we are returning the local microclimate to a more resilient state just before climate change hits. I for one support preparing ourselves for climate change, and that means more happy forests in Whatcom county. TREES FOREVER!!!
Misty Flowers didn’t get the memo about acting normal. She said something about bad decisions that her daughter made and how the county government somehow made it worse. I am completely NOT clear on what the issue was, but I believe that she said something about her daughter. Then, she broke out into a defiant song. In the first verse she was building confidence and then about a minute in she was fully belting out those words. It was a song about how her happiness is a middle finger to you and that she will RISE UP over some external force rooting against her. Chef’s kiss Ms. Flowers, may the wind forever lift your sails bringing you to higher heights of ridiculousness. Again, I am very unclear on what the issue was with her daughter and why she sung this rebellious song.
Alex from Maple Falls wants the trash cleaned up. He builds homes and had to reduce the last home’s price by $30k because the neighbors yards were so disgusting.
Then an elderly women from Kendall went into great detail about her neighbors that have multiple trailers on single lots and that they are just pooping in holes in the ground. She has no animosity for them but would like the government to solve the problem. Clean up the trash and get them to not poop in shallow holes in the ground.
A guy said that the county council is planning to add 5 more seats to a forestry group to get more conservation based outcomes. He says that we need to cut cut cut. And that only a few people want to preserve trees. I think its very peculiar when people say “only a few people” want something that is the subject of a great movement with large popular support. You can say preserving forests is dumb and we need to cut, but the support for preservation of forests is large and consistent.
Ben Elenbass abstained from a vote that passed like 6-0. Just why dude? Then he voted no on aquatic invasive species detection, but it passed 6-1. And, he asked before the vote about if the existing program has detected invasive species before and the answer was yes.
Everything ebbs and flows and right now I’d say the county council meetings are ebbing. I will continue to cover this meeting of energy vampires but my coverage will ebb and flow with the meeting itself.
Peace Out my fellow Whatcomonians.
