Ranking every first song on Billy Joel Albums
- You May Be Right (glass houses)
immediately sets the tone for billys best and hardest rocking album
- Say Goodbye to Hollywood (turnstiles)
introduces us to the new billy, saying goodbye to his troubled past in LA and moving back to his roots in NY
- Movin Out (the stranger)
can’t go wrong with it, purely classic songwriting
- Travelin’ Prayer (piano man)
A unique yet insanely catchy grassroots hillbilly esq tune that immediately catches the attention of the listener
- That’s Not Her Style (Storm Front)
A strong song with even stronger lyrics where billy is a lot more aggressive and angry in his songwriting
- Shes Got A Way (cold spring harbor)
a soft love song song, the first song you’ll hear if you listen to billys catalog in order
- Big Shot (52nd Street)
The first hard rock song billy ever released, takes a couple of twists and turns that ultimately leaves the listener satisfied and ready for whats next
- Streetlife Serenader (streetlife serenade)
Seemingly inspired by classical music, this intro runs on a little too long but contains a great guitar solo and a powerful chorus
- No Mans Land (River of Dreams)
A hard 90s rocker that contains the some of the grittiest guitars in billys songwriting, personal favorite of mine.
- Running on Ice (The Bridge)
Out of complete left field, almost makes no sense, but still a fun time, especially the chorus
- Allentown (Nylon Curtain)
The only billy joel song on the album that sounds like it was made with the intention of being a hit single. not bad, just doesn’t fit the album musically
- Easy Money (Innocent Man)
