Why in the world would hoover police confiscate narcan?

I was pulled over by Hoover PD for a traffic violation the other day and they wanted to search my car for whatever reason. Since I have nothing to hide and did not feel like going through the hassle of pissing them off and declining a search I went ahead and agreed. Although that goes against my morals, just didn't have the patience to fight with the police that day.

Anyways, although I don't use drugs myself I have a immediate family member that does. I also live near quite a few homeless people that I know use opiates. So it is my belief that just about every American should have fair and easy access to narcan that way they can save a life. The only requirement to getting clean is being alive. Although I have never had to use narcan, it gives me peace of mind knowing that I have some in my car if the situation ever arises.

When they found the narcan of course they accused me being an addict, and ransacked my car but of course nothing was found and they told me that they were going to keep the narcan because it was considered drug paraphernalia. I was not arrested or charged with anything. And I received the narcan from Jefferson county department of health, who told me that it is completely legal to carry the stuff around as long as you were trained on how to use it.

Why in the world with Hoover Police do this? you would think that in their field of work they would understand how important easy access to narcan is. I've never really liked the police much this is just a new low. I've had issues with Hoover / Homewood / vestavia in the past and have had many people tell me it's because I'm in an interracial relationship with a black woman. I could sit here and tell you stories all day about us being harassed by the police that I just listed above but I'm not here to do that.

Is it just me or does it seem like certain police departments in Jefferson county are not there to help and work with the community that they are supposed to serve but instead are almost militarized against it.

I'm not sure the legality of this but I can almost say for certain that they had no right to confiscate the narcan. They saw me with my black girlfriend and were obviously fishing for something and that is all they could come up with. Sad day it was and it did nothing but hurt my trust even more for the police.
