BrawlCap Presents: All Stars LATAM 2024 Playoffs Recap
Hello everyone! Back with another recap, but this time I'm gonna briefly cover the 8 teams that competed in the All Stars LATAM 2024 Playoffs this past week. Lots of crazy stuff happened so without further ado, let's jump right into the recap!
Bracket Results
Below are the results for the Upper Bracket.
Below are the results for the Lower Bracket.
Recap
One Chance: Ok so this team forfeited all of their matches due to Todd & weepy being unable to attend the event. Really thought we were gonna see this team play LIVE on the big stage for the first time this year. Oh well. Maybe in Late July we'll see them playing in the Monthly Finals.
Urubus do Pix: The first loss against a pretty much unknown team in Tigrinho VIP was brutal for them. Even though they probably would've gone to Losers in their next match anyways, I'm still a bit surprised they were unable to win a single match this event. This really has been a disappointing year for UDP.
Team Queso: This team is still pretty good overall, but they just got a bit unlucky with the bracket luck here in my opinion. The MiniPekkas are a really strong team that I didn't think they would come close to beating, but I felt they had a shot against SKC. A 4 set loss sent them packing a bit earlier than we expected unfortunately and they ended up not being the highest placing western team. At least they still have solid control of an LCQ spot.
Tigrinho VIP: The upset against UDP was definitely one of the highlights of the event. Not the biggest highlight, but I don't think we were expecting them to pull off an upset at all. While they were unable to take a set off of anyone else after that win, I still gotta applaud them for surprising us in that opening match. Well done lads.
Olimpo Squad: This team did play a bit better than I was expecting overall in this event. They went on a pretty solid Losers run that while it wasn't the longest lasting one, was still pretty impressive to see. They almost got knocked out early by UDP, but managed to come back down 2-1 to advance. After an easy win against Tigrinho, SKC was their next opponent. While they were able to keep it close and go up 2-1, they couldn't either of the next 2 sets and fell just short of at least a Top 3 finish. Still an impressive run and they'll get a bit more money than the teams ranked below them so that's cool.
SKCalalas: Yeah they had to go through a deep Losers run after getting paired with Spacestation in the opening match. Queso wasn't too much trouble for them and the Olimpo match was pretty close overall. Their matchup against one of the other two best teams in the region in the MiniPekkas was another fun one to watch and while they were up 2-1 at one point, they too failed to win a single set after that (let alone a single game) and finished placing in the Top 3. A solid result for what could possibly be their only LAN event of the year assuming they don't clutch up in the next Monthly Final.
Spacestaion Gaming VS. FA MiniPekkas: Spacestation was on a tear in the first two days losing only one set the entire event up until the Grand Finals. Heck they even won 13 straight games before losing one to the MiniPekkas in their 14th game of the event. Even then they still played well overall on the first two days and looked to lock up a championship win for the first time since April.
The MiniPekkas were also dominating in the event up until they had to face Spacestation in Winners Finals. While they were having some issues dealing with SKC, they managed to pull through and set up a rematch against the team that sent them to the Lower Bracket.
The first match of Grands was pretty uneventful as the MiniPekkas managed to sweep Spacestation forcing a bracket reset meaning the winner of the next match wins the whole thing. This next match was a back and forth bloodbath and the crowd attending the event were certainly in for a treat. It would all come down to the final set where Spacestation took Game 1 and put them in a Championship Point scenario. Game 2 came down to the final ticks on Parallel Plays, but MiniPekkas would prevail and take us to a double match point after winning 100%-98%. The next game was close, but the MiniPekkas managed to secure both zones in the end and become your All Stars LATAM champions!
The MiniPekkas have done it again! All Spacestation could do was watch as Jubileubr, Mohtep, Pekka and their coach Rol celebrated another amazing championship win while lifting up that trophy in front of hundreds of people. Not long after, the MiniPekkas would end up getting signed by a team who will soon be revealed to the public one day. For Spacestation, this was another moment where they came up just short of a championship win... a moment they'll remember heading into the July Monthly Finals to get revenge and steal the lone Worlds spot.
Conclusion
Thank you for reading this short recap of the event! Congrats to the MiniPekkas on winning their third championship in two months as well as winning the first LAN event of the year! I'm sure everyone attending Gamescom LATAM had a blast and I bet everyone who participated will remember this moment for the rest of their lives. We normally don't see LAN events happen in the Brawl Stars Esports scene and I'm so glad that we were able to get one in South America. This now has me super excited for the Andorra LAN happening later in July which I'm also stoked for.
Speaking of the Andorra event, I'm gonna post my recap of the group stage sometime this week. I'll also recap the Brawl Ball League's group stage also sometime this week since I know we are nearing the end of the group stage. My Power Rankings will be up sometime on Tuesday or maybe Wednesday. Really depends on if I'm able to finish it up quickly or not. And no I won't cover Mainland China teams except for the Mainland China Finals which I will recap in the Power Rankings post. I think you are either gonna love them or hate them. You'll see.
Anyways HUGE shoutout to (@ecopagg) and (@gamescomlatam) for hosting this LAN event for our amazing South American players. We hope you'll cook up something like this again for them soon!
