Women's perspective wanted

I was in a developing relationship with the woman for the past nearly 3 months. Everything seemed great: we enjoyed each other's company, both physically and otherwise, although we only got to see one another about once per week on average. We both are divorced with children (she has one 8 year-old, I have two teens). We went on our first trip together, two nights in the countryside. Even the text messages the few days after were normal. Then she messaged that she couldn't see herself falling in love with me, which really broke my heart, because I was feeling like I was getting to that point. I was definitely committed.

So, I was just wondering, from a woman's perspective...could this have been an excuse for something else? Does one just suddenly feel like they cannot fall in love without giving more time? Does every working relationship need to include a feeling of "butterflies in the stomach"?
