9mm + P vs Standard JHP in 4”+ Compensated

Any expert input on the use of +P ammo rather than standard JHP (e.g., Federal HST or Speer Gold Dot) with 4”+ ported barrel with compensated slide? Is it beneficial, or unnecessary? Is there a concern with early expansion and under penetration?
