When would you like a CHERUB live action series set ?

An ever occurring hot topic on here is always when will the books be adapted in the form of a film or TV series but through this post I would like to discuss the logistics that have probably been discussed in board rooms and planning meetings over the years.

I would like to point out that the rights to take CHERUB to the big screen are owned by Komixx Entertainment. They actually have a history of converting novels into live action pictures with 2018's The Kissing Booth. The book was written in 2012 and the sequel to the book is pretty much based entirely off the second movie which was in production as the author penned book 2.

Promising stuff as it seems we are in good hands here...

I know I would love and appreciate any adaptation of CHERUB but the truth is, I have my fears.

A big talking point for me should be when the adaptation is set. As we know the books are set, mostly in 2000's, and for me this works perfectly. There is just the right amount of technology to make the world feel so grounded and realistic. The principle that CHERUB is always just one step ahead of the curve when it comes to tech makes perfect sense and social media didn't have such a massive impact on us as a society back then either.

It is almost a certainty that a new adaption will be set in the present day because...

1) Muchamore has said this in an interview before

2) Yes having it in the noughties would appeal to us hardcore fans but it would really struggle to pull in a younger demographic. Some maybe weren't even born and these books shine because of how relatable the characters are with some of the situations they find themselves in. This new demographic can't relate to the music James listens to or the clothes he wears and you can bet your house on the fact they won't be supporting Arsenal because he does! (no character could make any child these days)

One thing I have heard of before but haven't actually bothered to watch or research is a series called Sex Education which I am sure some of you may have watched. I could be wrong but I believe the setting was present but with the fashion and music didn't match the tech.

I could see something along the lines of that working but it would be ultimately pointless as again, it wouldn't resonate with the intended demographic.

One thing I love about the series is the realism. The way RM captures British culture is so spot on by using annoying customers, extreme sarcasm and relatable dilemmas to build a grounded world that earns the right to have a child spy organization be entirely believable.

I do hope that none of that is lost and I hope they don't cut out some of the more gruesome and mature details that really make the series what it is. I do love how the books allow young readers to form their opinion of the world with each book presenting a different topic and leaving you with the information to process for yourself rather than telling you what to think.

I couldn't have the series without the big, controversial moments involving bath tubs for example...

Let me know what you think and how you feel about the series moving onto a live action setting !

According the Muchamore.com some schedules had to planned for work to take place 2022/23 time, if this is still going ahead or not is something we will never know due to confidential agreements etc. :(
