General Grant Coat Button

What’s the shot of this being legit, It’s been passed down in my family for a while so it’s definitely old but could it really be off General Grants Coat. Any Info would help, also anyone know what that chalk like substance is, it’s incredible heavy like lead but brittle. TIA
