Helluva boss and it's portrayal of the seven deadly sins.
Alright so I'm sure everyone here knows about helluva boss. It's about some imps in hell who run an assassin company and go to the human world to kill targets. Along the way we see them go through personal trauma, handle relationships, and other wacky hijinks. Anyways with the latest episode we have now seen all the seven sins( high ranking demons that embody the biblical sins and each rule a ring of hell). The designs are interesting but their personalities is what throws me off.
Half the sins aren't allowed to be the thing they're know for or support the kind of behavior associated with it.
Take for example Asmodeus. He's the demon of lust and in one of the episodes Stolas approaches him asking for a favor. Asmodeus incorrectly assumes that Stolas wants a love potion of some kind and then goes on to say he doesn't that " Fuck with that artificial bullshit". Thing is shouldn't he absolutely do that kind of thing? lust is all about giving in to primal desires and uncontrollable passion. A love potion or some kind of aphrodisiac that can remove inhibition is absolutely something he should have and something he should support but he doesn't. He believes that lust should be consensual despite rape being the one of the big reasons lust is frowned upon and the probably the main source of his power.
Secondly there's Beelzebub the demon of gluttony. In her debut episode she host a hellhound party where Luna and Blitzo attend. Blitzo starts drinking a bit too much and his drunken state is starting to cause problems for everyone. In the end it's Beelzebub that reaches out to Luna to tell her that he's starting to become a problem and she should check on him. But shouldn't this be the other way around? Blitzo is drinking to his hearts content and having fun so shouldn't beelzebub be supporting this? If anything it should be Beelzebub who's handing Blitzo his next drink while Luna tries to shut it down. Also she's thin? Has the figure of Victoria secret angel???
Finally there's Satan ( Not lucifer different guy) who's the demon of wrath. For some reason( probably just comedic effect) Satan has an imp that acts as a guru to him. The imp keeps telling him to calm down and align his chakra but my question is why? Why not have wrath be wrathful? It's what he's literally know for and they're taking that away. He still has a few outburst but these are immediately reigned in. I just don't get it.
Based on how these sins act I imagine envy will has some sympathetic reason for why she's jealous of others and sloth will have depression or something to explain why they're lazy. They're demons and in hell. I don't understand why they're whitewashed to remove their most prominent traits.
Side note but I have a feeling in hazbin hotel they'll flip the script with the angels. The angel of chastity will be like super slutty and total tease. Probably have a blog that suppose to show how exciting living a chaste life is but it's just a glorified onlyfans page. Or the angel of charity constantly guilt tripping others by reminding them of all he's done in the past.
