[Honkai: Star Rail] Bronya is a coward
Spoilers for the ending of the Jarillo VI storyline.
I found Belobog to be a really strong opening story for the game with an ending that left me really unsatisfied emotionally, and a huge part of that is Bronya's choice to lie about Cocholia at the end of the story.
Now, logically speaking, it makes sense. In real life, governments lie all of the time (especially about their leaders) and Belobog likely would have been thrown even deeper into the pit if the truth was revealed.
Unfortunately, I kinda don't care. Bronya chooses to whitewash her mother--the literal super-tyrant who is directly responsible for 90% of the issues Belobog is now facing, especially the issues in the underworld--because it's more convenient for her in her new leadership position to deal with.
That makes her a coward in my eyes; she uses her own selfish reasons to tell the masses that Cocholia is a hero, and while it's certainly viable in the short term considering how long Belobog has been in the trenches for, the exact thing she fears--a divide in the city and its people--was not only already happening (again, because of Cocholia), but once the truth comes out (and someone will find out) it'll be even worse nevermind that the underworlders, who were literally relegated to being second class citizens by Cocholia, have to deal with the fact that the person responsible for their plight got whitewashed into being a hero because it's too inconvenient for Bronya, or anyone really, to deal with the consequences of Cocholia's actions.
Nevermind that if Bronya dies before the truth comes out, it's even more convenient for her because then she won't be around to deal with the fallout of Cocholia's actions herself. And the whole coping mechanism stuff, which, while understandable, kinda just makes her even more selfish and cowardly to me.
Like I said, I know that logically speaking the ending makes sense, but emotionally it kinda just makes a formerly fun character almost permanently unlikable to me. Idk if we ever return to Jarillo VI later on (I have yet to finish Xianzhou), but if we do I really hope that this ends up being a plot point in some way.
