My first 3v3 experience

I mainly play TO but yesterday I grave 3v3 a try.

First round, I killed a guy and went to help a team mate

He stopped to fight and messaged me saying that I shouldn't interfere with others. So basically the whole thing became waiting for the others to finish. Is this the norm? If so, why not play 1v1 directly? It's so boring this way. I wanted to try 3v3 because It's not a 1v1 but it hasn't the big pile ups of TO.
