Wahl Super Taper problem

Hey ladies and gentlemen, in my attempt to becoming my own barber, I went on to purchase the probably most recommended clipper in the world, Wahl Super Taper. However, I know nothing about those things and upon using the clipper for the first time I faced a problem.. while cutting my sides the clipper just “jerked” or stopped for 2-3 seconds then ran again, for a multiple of times. Any idea what could be going on here? My hair was really short to begin with and this is a brand new clipper anyway, or so I thought, so it shouldnt be doing that.

Should I return it?
