Zack Snyder’s Justice League succeeded in a universe dominated by failure

(Note a lot of this theory is speculation as I just watched Zack’s Justice League for the 3rd time in totality. Also I will be focusing a lot on Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Black Adam, The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, The Flash, Matt Reeves’ The Batman & James Gunn’s Superman).

His Justice League film was the perfect exit strategy for the DCEU to end and for the rebooted DCU by James Gunn to begin. Let me start here, WB and Gunn gave their blessing to Snyder to “finish” his vision of Part I of Justice League. There is a lot of setup in the film and watching it, there are key indicators that this may be an expansion of a bigger narrative that might be covered in the future.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League: Everything with the New Gods and Darkseid felt like a tease for something bigger to occur and it was; just not for this UNIVERSE. If you go to the Superman resurrection scene when Cyborg gets multiple glimpses of the future events involving deaths of many league members at the hands of Darkseid, he says no. Not because of the premonitions themselves but because these are inevitable events that are bound to happen in that unknown future, and these are events that Cyborg never disclosed to the group even the vision at the end with them and Joker vs Evil Superman. It all seems to be the bookend of that universe. Superman is inevitably going to turn evil. The resurrection was a temporary gamble they made in order to stop Steppenwolf. Aquaman is killed as the new King of Atlantis, something he has achieved in his universe in his first film. Wonder Woman surrounded by her sisters and mother as she dies. Joker mentions Batman being responsible for the world being in a post apocalyptic reality at the end of the film and wonders if any other timelines become corrupted by his own actions. And A black suited Superman holding Lois or Martha as Darkseid consoles him. If all this is meaningless setup, why put this in the film? Unless it’s for a bigger narrative which I will explain when I speak on Darkseid’s role in the future.

Black Adam: Short and simple here. This was an attempt to reinvigorate the DCEU into something of Dwayne Johnson’s vision and honestly I’m glad we didn’t get this. He didn’t even want to face that universe’s Shazam and opted to face Henry Cavill’s Superman who at the time wasn’t even contracted to play Superman for the foreseeable future. It was a handshake agreement based on far-cry from the fans (including myself) to see him return to the role. But based on the failure of Black Adam, future plans were cooked and thank the New Gods for that, but a shame to see Henry suffer.

The Flash: This one may be a lil complicated to explain. But since Affleck didn’t want to return as Batman to the DCEU and all the Ezra Miller shenanigans, WB had Andy Muschetti (Hope I spelled that right) rewrite basically write the character in to a theoretical corner, trapping him in George Clooney’s Batman’s universe (maybe to establish his Flash to not be in the DCU plans and a punishment for hurting the film promo and bombing it with his personal choices). The fact that we saw Supergirl in Keaton’s world and not Cavill’s Superman’s world leads me to believe that she wasn’t in the cards anymore for the DCEU and instead the DCU and The Flash was wierd jumpstart to fuel speculation on her future role.

James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad: A story that kinda bridges the DCEU and the DCU together for a theory I will detail once again when I talk about Darkseid. Not sure if anyone besides Waller, Weasel and Peacemaker will appear in the DCU.

Peacemaker: Already established as mostly canonical to both universes except the ending with the DCEU Justice League.

Matt Reeves’ The Batman: My favorite Batman film and I don’t believe this is canon to the DCU unless Reeves or Gunn confirms it. Otherwise this is DC Elseworlds.

James Gunn’s Superman and Darkseid’s role in DCU: As this is just a trailer, we don’t have any specific details on this Superman’s role but everything seems brighter and hopeful here so far until the film is released. Now with Darkseid, I believe this Darkseid is a multiversal threat that corrupts worlds and people, which is why the Antilife Equation is pivotal in Zack Snyder’s Justice League story. This Darkseid may appear in the DCU later on with the Antilife Equation to corrupt this Superman as he did in the vision in ZSJL. This Superman hasn’t been corrupted yet and we never seen this Darkseid become full immersed in film besides flashback and 2 scenes with Steppenwolf. Zack Snyder’s universe was DESTINED to fail (if you look at most of the films with those characters with that mindset, it’s pretty fucking cool). DCU (James Gunn/Peter Safran) is supposed to SUCCEED where DCEU (Snyder/WB) FAILED. Establishing separate stories to connect to a greater narrative in due time which is why my last theory maybe bigger than the Darkseid one. I believe DCU’s eventual Justice League film will be Crisis on Infinite Earths inviting DCEU characters over to help DCU characters in defeating that multiversal Darkseid. It may or may not happen but hey it’s all a gamble in the end.

I know a lot I just said makes no sense like Darkseid having the Antilife Equation already but if that power could control any living being, why wouldn’t he establish more dominance in a new universe? To corrupt the incorruptible. Cavill’s Superman was corruptible even in BVS he looked too conflicted/suicidal/genocidal at times. David Corenswet’s Superman may not be as corruptible.

But all in all I believe with this theory, Zack Snyder’s Justice League succeeded and giving us a great film and making characters and future events matter. Everything else is in Gunn’s hands. I don’t agree on bringing old actors back unless it’s for a COIE storyline as I mentioned but unless it’s that, every new Wonder Woman to Shazam and Harley Quinn should be recast for Gunn’s vision. The DCEU failed because of bad scripts, repeated box office bombs and overall bad product except for a few films. I know imma get some heat for this but tell me what you guys think in comments.
