What is the appeal of the Legion of Superheroes?
Admittedly, I've never directly read a Legion of Superheroes book. But I’ve also never seen any besides Bendis’ run. And after reading his Superman, I don’t trust his DC titles. Normally, I can get the appeal of a character even without reading them. People read Superman because he’s good personified and because Clark Kent is just a fun character in general. People read Wally West Flash because they like Spider-Man. People read Titans books because they love the family dynamic. People read JSA books because it’s deeply seeped in continuity and typically they crossover with the rest of the DC Universe. But I can’t really see the appeal of the Legion of Superheroes books. At best, they could potentially be really nuanced and tackle complex moral/political topics with a future filter over it. But, even then, I feel like I’m reaching. I admit that this is partially a me problem. I really should try to read a Legion of Superheroes run. But, from what I’ve seen, all they’ve really been to me is continuity porn. A team that shows up because a writer really loves DC continuity. Like the JSA but without any substance. Don’t take that to heart, I literally don’t know what I’m talking about. Educate me.
