NEW SELLER - EXPLAIN LIKE I’M FIVE - SHIPPING
I started to re-organize my closet and realized I had A LOT of clothing, shoes, accessories, misc., etc., and I want to sell a hefty chunk of it. It’s mostly t-shirts and blouses, but I do have some heavier coats, jackets, boots, sneakers, and other misc. items I’d like to get rid of.
SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN THE SHIPPING POLICIES AND PROTOCOLS TO ME LIKE I’M LITERALLY A CHILD.
As I’m understanding, shipping through depop seems easier, as it just automatically calculates, gives you a label, and the fees are deducted from the original transaction that was deposited in PayPal. Sounds simple enough. BUT, If I were to independently ship, how exactly does this work? Can I somehow work the shipping into the original cost or choose my own rate, opt out of the depop program, and subsequently package my item, go to USPS, pay there (after receiving payment from buyer via PayPal) and then send the buyer their tracking info? Is there something in-app that makes this option impossible? In that scenario, I’m sure I could calculate costs for myself quite easily and have a quote for the cost of shipping on a particular item if the customer were to inquire before purchasing. I would like to start out having the buyer pay for shipping, but I’m having trouble wrapping my brain around the entire THING, I do not even know if I am allowed to ship independently using this app. How do I even have an estimate for myself so I can know how to price my items? Does depop auto-calculate and add the price they give you even if you ship independently? I have not made a sale nor have I listed anything because I’m obviously very confused and don’t want to make any n00b mistakes and end up losing money. I’ve never sold anything online -_-
I’m probably overthinking this, I would just hate to lose money trying to make money.
